H ave your books been collecting dust up on the shelf? Do you keep thinking that you don’t have enough time to read? If you’ve answered yes to both questions, it looks like you’re missing out on one of life’s greatest pleasures and you need to “make” more time to study those tomes. After all, why should endure another minute of book deprivation?
If you’re wondering how to carve more time out of every day to pick up a book and sink your teeth into it, here are five simple, but effective ways to read more each day:
- Set a Goal
Okay, first thing’s first—set a goal and make it realistic. If you’re a busy bee, you may not be able to read a chapter a day, but how about a page or two?
By setting a doable goal for yourself, you won’t feel like reading a book is an insurmountable task. It may take you a while to finish the whole thing, but you’ll get there eventually!

Do you commute to and from school or work on a train or bus? If your answer is yes, why not stash a book in your bag? It will come in handy when you’re bored stiff of waiting for your stop and it’ll help to keep you awake too!
You can also sneak in a few pages at breakfast, lunch or dinner especially if you eat alone. You may even be able to get away with it if you eat with others, provided your meal companions don’t mind, of course!
- Sacrifice Some Screen Time
Thanks to the influx of technology in our daily lives, you’re likely to spend a good amount of your free time at home watching television, tuning into YouTube videos, using the computer, tapping your tablet, or chatting on your smart phone.
Why not detox from technology for about an hour each day? Instead, dedicate that time to curling up with a good book and sipping a warm mug of your favorite beverage. Doesn’t that sound heavenly?
- Read Before Bed
Speaking of sacrificing screen time, here’s a great way to unplug at the end of the day. Instead of bringing an electronic gadget to your bedside, bring a book instead. In fact, why not stash a book on your bedside table so you can reach for it every night?
