F eeling blue? Well, at least you’re not alone! We all feel down sometimes, especially when life gives us lemons.
Whether it’s work-related stress, relationship problems, or financial woes, it can be tough not to let things get to us. Fortunately, we can keep our heads above water by using simple ways to soothe ourselves—and it doesn’t cost a thing! Check out these five things you can do to make yourself feel better in a jiffy:
- Reach out to Mother Nature
Due to the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we often find it hard to connect with nature, but how can we do that when we live in the concrete jungle? Well, try going outside for a bit, and get some sunshine for a few minutes. Your blue mood could be because you have been cooped up indoors for far too long. If possible, visit a nearby park or garden to soak up some greenery, listen to the birds, and get some fresh air—you’ll feel so much better.

Did you know that exercise can help decrease cortisol, the hormone that is responsible for stress? It also helps increase endorphins, the feel-good hormone. If you can’t factor in a full-blown gym session into your daily routine, try taking the stairs at work or go out for a stroll around your neighborhood. You can also look online for short cardio workout guides that you can easily complete at home.
- YouTube for Laughs
Whether it’s cute cat videos, news bloopers, or hilarious segments from popular talk shows, YouTube is a veritable goldmine for funny and uplifting clips that are sure to make you smile, laugh, and maybe even cry tears of joy. Careful though, it can be addictive! Like everything else in life, YouTube is good in small doses, don’t overdo it, and waste hours upon hours digging up funny videos!
- Music Magic
A quick way to turn your frown upside down is by listening and grooving to your favorite music. Better still, find that song you used to love so much, and rediscover it! Let the music take you away for a few minutes and cleanse your spirit. If you’re at home, go ahead and dance! Breaking a sweat will do you good!
- Read All About It
These days, there’s just too much electronic ringing and beeping going on. Sometimes, all we need to do is unplug ourselves from the world! Spare at least 30 minutes to turn off the television, radio, computer, and yes, even your phone, and indulge in a bit of reading. If you learn the Soundway Efficient Speed Reading technique, you can read even more in a shorter amount of time, and the feeling of accomplishment will help to boost your mood, too.
