T here are many memory-improvement methods you can find on the Internet, in books and in other materials. Choosing what you think works best is not always easy.
It is hard to tell which memory improvement tip or program is better compared to any other when they all have the same goal to meet. The key is to find a system that works best for you and keep building on it.
Here are 5 great memorization methods to get you started on the road to a supercharged memory.
Method 1
Before using a memorization improvement method, you need to tune in to exactly what you want to achieve. In other words, you need to be clear on the kind of information you need to memorize. Are they lists or do you need to memorize chunks of information in sequence, like a speech? Different types of information work best with different types of methods.
For example, if you are trying to memorize a speech, speed-reading techniques from Soundway will help you condense large amounts of text in your mind. This method will help you “see” text as photo images which you can then string in sequence to help you remember the whole speech.
Method 2
Be extra sensitive to your surroundings. When you do this there is a big chance that you will create an open mind toward information and environmental details. This, in turn, will help you become consciously aware of your surroundings and will help you retain these details in your mind. Nothing beats paying attention to what you need to memorize. For example, have you ever parked your car in a mall, and then forget where you parked? You can avoid this frustrating situation if you pay close attention to the car park level, and take note of the path you take to exit from the car park into the mall. Then simply retrace your path when you want to return to your car.
Method 3
When you are trying to remember specific information or data, do not just go over the details by reading it or saying it out loud without your full understanding. This will only defeat the purpose. The more you understand what you are trying to memorize, the better the chance of remembering it. Try explaining it in your own words to a friend or better yet, a pet (your dog, cat or fish won’t laugh at you!).

If you have a sequence of information to remember, like a grocery list, try linking the items on the list to images, so you can create a connection. Additional tip: The funnier the image, the easier it is for you to recall what you are trying to remember.

Creating a Memory Palace is one of the most effective methods of improving your memory and the benefit of having one is that it can be used over and over again for various types of information.
Here’s how it works:
Create a mental blueprint of a route that you use regularly such as the roads you drive down to get to work or the path you use in your house to get from the living room to the bedroom or to the kitchen. Next, assign different spots along your route to store information. For instance if you are trying to remember a grocery list, assign the eggs to the sofa and imagine what would happen should you sit on those eggs, next assign the spinach to a vase on your table. When you need to recall information, simply mentally walk through your memory palace and retrieve the information you stored. The more outrageous your memory palace is, the easier it is to recall the information.
These memory maximization methods are meant to be fun and easy. As long as you are open to try a variety of strategies and you prepare yourself mentally by being more observant of details, you can remember things far more easily.
